SUPERBOWL ADS 2010

Mashable has done it again by giving us one place to see all the Superbowl ads for this year. I have to say they are all kinda average – the GOOGLE one is good, but not something we haven’t seen before. The Coke/Simpsons one could’ve done so much more. GoDaddy is just pointless and makes a point of not showing you the full ad (too hot apparently) so you have to go to their website – I did and I’ll never get that 5 minutes of my life back. ONE INK BLOT AT A TIME

Oscar Diaz’s Ink Calendar has taken the month by storm — one ink blot at a time. The Ink Calendar’s unusual technique of using capillary action to ‘stain’ each day of the month has reignited the design world’s senses. That humidity may render the ‘calendar’ inaccurate, but this should be ignored since it’s brilliant and utterly beautiful!

CANTOS UN-MUSEUM

A visualisation from a proposal for the Calgary Music centre by Diller, Scofidio and Renfro. While not especially interactive, the fly-through animation is quite effective primarily through some very well thought out sound design. Once again the use of silhouette cut-outs for people works beautifully here, lending a crowd experience without the distraction of personalities. And this style is well suited to After Effects’ 3D production. A Big Kev for this one!

YVES SAINT LAURENT SPACE

Bartproject developed this interactive space for YSL back in 2007 so the interactivity is a little ordinary. Take note of the animation design though. I like the way they have used ghosted silhouettes to represent hands and people. It overcomes that issue of ‘cheesey’ disembodied arms we have used in the past. Please, somebody leave me a comment. It gets terribly lonely inside here sometimes!
